Motivation

The twins will be FOUR on Sunday. I can't believe it. FOUR! Time flies. I have enjoyed having babies and toddlers, but now on to preschoolers. The kids will start preschool in a couple of weeks and I'm really excited for this new adventure for them. I think they will really enjoy it. They will be near their Gams since she works at the church connected to it, so that eases my mind if something were to happen.

A few notes about the kids -

B -
  • Fascinated with dinosaurs and dragons. Has a dragon named "Derek the dragon".
  • Loves sea creatures, especially sharks.
  • Obsessed with snakes. And guns. (He knows daddy has killed a few snakes, so I think this is where he gets it.)
  • Loves carrots and ranch, broccoli, shrimp, milk, chicken, burritos, cereal, eggs, mama's homemade fettuccine alfredo, spaghetti, apples, and sandwiches.
  • Favorite shows are Dino Dan and Dora the Explorer
  • Favorite movie: Monsters University
  • Personality: happy kid, usually laid back and independent, loves and protects sister (he is a very good brother), does want to be held from time to time, enjoys having mama lay down with him at nap/bed times, enjoys make believe, LOVES to run
  • What does he want to be when he grows up? A ninja turtle firefighter doctor. Dream big, kid. You can do whatever you want!
K2 -
  • Favorite shows: Dora the Explorer and Team Umizoomi
  • Favorite movie: Frozen
  • Favorite music: anything by Katy Perry, especially "Roar"...the volume can be so low you can barely hear it and she will ask us to turn it up so she can sing. She will also sing "Stay With Me" by Sam Smith
  • Personality: detail-oriented, motherly, passionate, talkative, prefers big conversation with adults over playing with toys, loves board games, card games, and puzzles.
  • Wants to do gymnastics
  • Loves to be in the pool
  • Loves tomatoes, most soups, shrimp, chicken, fries, yogurt, pizza, and sandwiches

I am thrilled to be back in the DFW area near family. They have been a huge help and I like being able to see them as often as I want. I have two more days left of A&P II. My last lab practical is tomorrow and then an essay final is due on Thursday. I currently have an A in the class, so I'm happy about that. This is my last chance to try for nursing. I am not a competitive person at all and the last time I took nursing prerequisites, I just assumed I wouldn't get in, so I didn't even apply. I don't want to raise B and K to be quitters. I want them to be self-motivated and do their best if they want something bad enough. I need to set that example. I will take Microbiology and A&P I again in the fall (these courses have to be within five years old in order to apply and mine are about eight.)

Where Does the Time Go?

I can't believe it has been almost a year since I last updated. Time moves so fast and it's hard to keep up with everything. We just reached our one year anniversary of living on a farm. We made it. We have about 50+ chickens so we get fresh eggs daily. It's hard to beat that. Unfortunately, we recently lost about a dozen of our chickens to who knows what. We woke up one morning and they were just gone. I'm not totally sure what happened or what got to them, but nature is harsh. We've found a few rattlesnakes out in the yard that K has had to shoot. One was about 2 feet away from our chickens so he didn't have much of a choice. Another was in the coop with the chickens eating an egg. A couple of weeks ago, Aspen, one of our dogs was bitten by a rattlesnake so I had to take her to the emergency vet at 1 am. Luckily, we got to her in time and the antivenin saved her life. Things sure are entertaining around here.

After another year in teaching, I determined that this field just isn't for me. I love being in the classroom and teaching itself, but I don't love the long hours, disrespect from some of the students, and the expectations of pleasing everyone all at the same time. I need a career that will give me more time with my littles and I'll reveal what I'm working on in the months ahead. While I'm working on what I have planned, the kids and I moved into an apartment back up to my hometown while K stays in Austin. He works late hours anyway, so this isn't too much of a change from that respect. The kids will be starting pre-k this year at the church where my grandmother works and they will be closer to their grandparents. This will be a huge blessing for our family.

B and K2 went to the doctor yesterday. B just wasn't acting right and his eyes were draining green goo. I had a feeling that he had a sinus infection, so I took him in. Sure enough, he has a double ear infection, a sinus infection, a sore throat and conjunctivitis. He seems to be more energetic today. Based off of their last visit to the pediatrician, B weighed in at 31 lbs and K2 was 34. Both are around 3 feet tall. I'll get exact measurements when they go in for their 4 year check up in a month or so.

That's all I have for now. I'll update more later.
