I'm separating this post from the one with the kids since that one was so long. We started looking for houses here in the Austin area about a month ago and we found a few that we like on 5 acres. We made an offer one one but the repairs aren't going as planned. We'll see what happens with that. We were supposed to close on July 1.
On Friday, K was told that he was being laid off at the end of the month. I'm glad that they gave him two weeks notice so he could start looking elsewhere, but that's tough. Last time, they just let him go the same day and it took 2-3 months for him to find something. From what I understand, Austin has that most jobs for his line of work. Oregon and Arizona are next. Most of the jobs we've seen are for 6 months to a year contract, though, which would mean more time without health insurance. We've been without it for a year now and it scares me.
Anyway, K is an electrical engineer that specializes in FPGA. He's always done engineering for the military sector, so when funding is taken away, a lot of people start losing their jobs. It's frustrating. He's going to start looking into more commercial companies now, but he's hoping to be able to keep his security clearance. Praying for something quick to pop up for him here in Austin. This moving every year business is exhausting.
